PROFILE:
Founded in 1988, PUBLIC is one of the first interdisciplinary journals to explore contemporary cultural issues by bridging scholarly and critical studies with artistic practices.

“Unfailingly smart, easy on the eye, and dedicated to exploring ideas that have escaped the general media drubbing, this is a magazine you couldn’t have imagined ten years ago. Along with Zone, PUBLIC has restored my faith in the interdisciplinary critical journal.”
~Albert Mobilio, Village Voice Literary Supplement~

PUBLIC is a forum dedicated to excellent content. Always on the cutting edge, past issues have included previously unpublished material by: Michel Foucault, Allen Weiss, and Emily Vey Duke, original translations of Sarah Kofman, Giorgio Agamben, Chantal Tomas, and Jean Baudrillard, essays by Avital Ronell, Ward Churchill, Cornel West and Jody Berland, interviews with Jeff Wall, Jacques Derrida and Manuel Delanda, artists projects by Lynn Cohen, Gary Hill, Mina Totino, Rodney Graham, and Michel Nedjar as well as fiction by many writers including Nicole Brossard and Christa Wolf. As this brief list indicates, PUBLIC has gained the respect and support of many of our era’s most distinguished artists and thinkers. Beautifully bound and presented in 144+ pages, PUBLIC is designed for readers in the belief that a stimulating publication can also be a pleasurable object.
