Imagine this: you leave for university from a war-ravaged, white-ruled colony–Rhodesia–and return home to a newly independent African nation–Zimbabwe. A personal memoir of history’s mad gallop through three decades of Independence in this complicated Southern African nation.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Born in Zambia and raised in Zimbabwe, Annie Holmes studied literature in South Africa quite a long time ago, and then completed an MFA in creative writing in California. In the two decades between these two bouts of school—which were also the first twenty years of her country’s independence—she worked as a book editors and filmmaker at home in Zimbabwe and in other countries in Southern Africa.
