20th Anniversary Issue on newsstands in September 2008 Public Issue 37: Public? reflects on twenty years of critical thinking and creative engagement with the notion of the public sphere.

In Spring 2006, Public Issue 34: d:\personal featured Lynn Cazabon’s interview with Hasan Elahi, discussing his project Tracking Transience, an ongoing project undertaken following an intensive, post 9/11 FBI investigation in 2002. In May of 2008, Hasan appeared on The Colbert Report as a guest, discussing the same experience and the project of constant self-surveillance it generated. This would seem to confirm Public’s ongoing reputation for having its finger on the pulse, that, or perhaps Mr. Colbert is an avid reader of Public. Either way, we’re feeling a bit smug.
